I’ve been treated for gonorrhea. Is it safe for me to have sex with a condom?

It depends on the timing. You should not have sex with a condom (or without, for that matter) for at least a week after beginning treatment. If you still are exhibiting symptoms of gonorrhea after a week, consult with your doctor. Gonorrhea is developing resistance to some antibiotics, so it could be that you need to try a different treatment if your symptoms aren’t clearing up.

While condoms reduce the risk of transmitting STDs like gonorrhea, they are not a guarantee against the transmission. Therefore, it’s better to wait until you know you are not infected, rather than risk you and your partner being reinfected with gonorrhea.
