I have an STD …..?
Asked by Your Neighbor on June 1, 2014
If you and your boyfriend both have genital herpes is it ok to keep having unprotected sex, or can it cause a more serious STD
eg. How do you approach an STD test with a new partner?

If you’ve both already got herpes then having unprotected sex wouldn’t make it any worse. If one of you has an outbreak then abstain from sexual activity until it clears up because it could irritate it further. This is assuming that herpes is the ONLY thing that both of you have, if one of you has another STD in addition to herpes then obviously it can be passed from one to the other.
There are drugs such as Valtrex that can control outbreaks but not cure herpes.
Unless you’re on birth control then I wouldnt’ advise having unprotected sex, even if you both share the same STD.
