STD’s are tested via a blood test. When I go in I ask for a full STD check-up including HIV. Also a visual check will be done, but the patient should speak-up and make her doctor aware of any symptoms or concerns she has. When you visit the doctor you have to be your own advocate. It is nothing to be embarrassed about…it is the doctor’s job and they are not mind-readers.
